Russell Norman-backed the Bowler to open in London

The Bowler, a "gourmet meatball" street food brand backed by Polpo group's Russell Norman, is to open its first permanent site in London's Seven Dials this month.

The brainchild of street food entrepreneur Jez Felwick, the 518 sq ft, 15-cover site will be located on Monmouth Street and serve options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It will also offer a lunchtime "Fast Bowler hatch" takeaway service.

The menu will focus on the group's street food classics, including Great Balls of Fire, with pork and beef in a spicy tomato sauce; the ExciThaiBall, with Thai green curry and sweet chilli jam; and Ballafel, with spinach, chickpea and ricotta balls, alongside cumin soured cream. Breakfast dishes will be along the lines of "smoking bacon balls" with baked rosti and beans.

The brand, which started life as a food van, initially traded from temporary locations at city centre markets including Shoreditch, Kerb Spitalfields and Street Feast London, as well as major UK festivals. Felwick has also written a cookbook focusing on meatball recipes inspired by the brand.

Monmouth Street and the Seven Dials area is also home to brands such as Homeslice Pizza and Monmouth Coffee, as well as the newly-opened Swedish bakery Fabrique, the café 26 Grains, and Bocca Di Lupo-backed restaurant Vico.
