Wolfgang Puck to be honoured with Hollywood Walk of Fame star

Celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck is to become the second chef to be honoured with a Hollywood Walk of Fame star.

Puck, who opened his first European restaurant, CUT at 45 Park Lane in London's Mayfair in 2011, follows in the footsteps of American TV chef and restaurateur Bobby Flay.

He said he was "thrilled" to receive the star. "To have my legacy immortalised by this iconic landmark, and to know that one day my grandchildren will be able to see my name on the star is an honour not only for me, but also for my family."

Puck launched his first flagship restaurant Spago in Los Angeles in 1982 after having established a reputation at Ma Maison in Hollywood in the late 1970s. He has since launched award-winning restaurant brands including Chinois, CUT and WP24.

The news was announced yesterday in front of the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles by television producer and chair of the 2016-17 Walk of Fame selection committee Vin Di Bona and Leron Gubler, president and chief executive of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

Di Bona said: "The Walk of Fame selection committee is thrilled to announce our newest honourees to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The committee looked carefully at each nominee and we feel that we have selected a great group of talent that will appeal to the tastes of many fans around the world."

The Walk of Fame honours celebrities of television, theatre, radio and recording and holds approximately 24 star ceremonies every year, with 2,583 stars having been laid since 1960. A donation of $30,000 (£22,500) is required to install and maintain each star.
