Teams announced for UK Young Restaurant Team of the Year

The teams competing for the Skills for Chefs seventh annual UK Young Restaurant Team of the Year have been announced.

They are:

  • Collette's restaurant at the Grove hotel, Watford
  • Eastleigh College
  • Basingstoke College
  • Fischer's of Baslow, Bakewell
  • Loughborough College
  • Eagle and Child, Ramsbottom
  • Kendal College
  • Central Bedfordshire College
  • Penwith College
  • North Warwickshire and Hinkley College.

The teams consist of two chefs and one front of house member. They will compete in two semi-finals in the south (Central Bedfordshire College) and the north (Leeds City College) on 2 and 3 May.

The grand final will take place on 4 July at the Skills for Chefs Conference in Sheffield City College. The theme is Latin American cuisine and Robert Ortiz from Lima in London will be the guest judge.

The prize for the winning team, which will be announced at a gala dinner, will be a study tour to Colombia, sponsored by MSK Ingredients. The tour will include a visit to cocoa research centre Granja Luker.

David McKown, director of Skills for Chefs, said: "The quality of the entries this year demonstrate that the competition is capturing the imagination of industry and education."
