Brakes wins gold at Green Apple Awards for Environmental Best Practice
Food service wholesaler Brakes Group has won gold in the food and drink category at the Green Apple Awards for Environmental Best Practice.
Brakes beat the Green Earth Appeal and London Clubs International to win the award, which was announced at a ceremony at the House of Commons on Monday (14 November).
The award came in recognition of the Brakes Group partnership with UK food charity FareShare and is testament to Brakes Group's corporate sustainable and environmental achievements over the past year, highlighting dedication to introducing green changes to its business.
Jim Trower, director of operations at FareShare, said: "We are delighted that our work with Brakes is being recognised at this high level. By taking surplus food from Brakes and delivering it out to a network of local charities, we provide a vital lifeline for those who are otherwise unable to access healthy food.'
The judging panel for the Green Apple Awards is drawn from the Environmental Agency, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, the Chartered Institute of Waste Management and other independent bodies.
The Green Apple Awards - now in their 18th year - are the longest-running environmental awards in the world. Open to any organisation, they recognise and reward companies, councils and international corporations that have made a positive impact on the environment, or enabling initiatives to improve sustainability.
