Entries flood in for First KP of the Year competition
Caterer and Hotelkeeper's KP of the Year competition, in partnership with Winterhalter, has been attracting lots of support from some well-known chefs.
Winterhalter managing director Stephen Kinkead, who worked a shift as a KP at Restaurant Sat Bains in Nottingham recently, said: "It's bloody hard work - without them, no clean plates, no clean pots. A top restaurant like this creates so many dirty dishes; I don't know how the guys do it."
Sat Bains agreed: "On a typical night we'll get through 700 to 900 pieces of crockery. Then we have silverware, glassware. Good kitchen porters are absolutely crucial."
If you haven't entered your KP yet there is still time - and if you need an added incentive Winterhalter has confirmed that the winning KP's establishment will win one of its still-to-be-launched pass-through machines, launching in September and worth in excess of £12,000.
The new warewasher will feature new technologies that save energy, water and chemicals. The prize will include the warewasher itself and installation (but not tabling) and will be in addition to the previously announced prize of £500 cash and a meal for the winner and up to five colleagues at a Michelin-starred restaurant.
