Edinburgh's Hotel Missoni wins five-star rating
Hotel Missoni in Edinburgh had been granted a five-star rating just five months after welcoming its first guests.
The 136-bedroom hotel is the first of a new brand of properties to be opened by Rezidor in conjunction with the Italian fashion house Missoni. It is the first hotel in Edinburgh to be awarded five stars since the Eton Collection's the Glasshouse was awarded the rating in 2006, bringing the quota of five-star hotels in the city to nine. There are a total of 32 five-star hotels throughout Scotland.
VisitScotland says the five-star rating has been awarded for Hotel Missoni's ability to deliver seamless hospitality and service, ensuring guests' needed are anticipated and exceeded.
The organisation's quality assurance team was also impressed by the way Missoni's iconic style shone through, while still providing the services and facilities expected of a modern international city centre hotel.
Carina Williamson, general manager of the hotel, which is situated on the site of former offices of the Scottish Parliament, said her team was delighted to receive the award.
"To be recognised with such a prestigious accolade is real testament to the hotel's luxury credentials," she said. "There are some great hotels in Edinburgh and we believe that our fresh new offering further strengthens Edinburgh's position as an outstanding city destination.
Further Missoni hotels will open in Kuwait and Cape Town next year, and in Brazil and Oman in 2012.
