Hip hop artist DJ Yoda to open smokehouse

Hip hop artist DJ Yoda is partnering in a barbecue restaurant in London's Kensal Green.

Austen's Smokehouse restaurant will be run by Rob Claassen, who founded London eateries the Chamberlayne, Ostuni and Salusbury.

Opening in late July, the restaurant will serve dishes inspired by the low and slow cooking style typical in the Southern States of America including smoked pork butt, USDA brisket, beef ribs and chicken.

Music in the 80-cover restaurant will be provided by DJ Yoda.

Rob Claassen said the restaurant is inspired by trips he had taken with DJ Yoda.

"After trips to Texas, South Carolina, Louisiana and LA, the research led to a new barbecue-style restaurant focused on ‘dry' or ‘sauce on the side' style found in Texas," he said. "The sauces are diverse, found on the table and applied by the customer, afterwards."

The restaurant will also offer a selection of craft beers, including a house lager brewed by And Union.
