Michelin-starred Casamia restaurant to relocate

Brothers Jonray and Peter Sanchez-Iglesias are to move their Michelin-starred Casamia restaurant to a new site in the centre of Bristol.

The pair have exchanged contracts on a deal that will see Casamia relocate around five miles down the road from its Westbury-on-Trym location to the site of the former Bristol General Hospital.

The restaurant will be part of a new development called the General by developers City & Country and will sit on the ground floor overlooking the harbourside. Casamia, which has held a star since 2009, plans to reopen in January 2016.

The main restaurant space in the new site will offer space for around six fewer covers than the original, although a private dining room in the Test Kitchen will seat an additional 12 people.

Jonray Sanchez-Iglesias, co-owner of Casamia, said: "Our Westbury restaurant has given us so many wonderful memories and it will forever hold a place in our hearts, but we're incredibly excited about starting Casamia's next chapter here at the General.

Peter Sanchez-Iglesias, co-owner of Casamia, continued: "As Bristol boys we obviously saw no need to look any further than the BS postcode. And with the spacious dining room, stunning views and great location it's the perfect place for us to push our high standards to the next level. With our existing team at the helm we hope to delight guests with a truly high-quality dining experience they have come to expect from us."

Last year the brothers were named as Chefs of the Year in the Good Food Guide 2015.

The Guide's consultant editor Elizabeth Carter said of the pair: "Over the past couple of years Jonray and Peter Sanchez-Iglesias have grown in stature and I'm really pleased to be able to rank them with the best chefs in the UK in the Waitrose Good Food Guide2015.

"The brothers have come to understand what people want to eat, put a high premium on seasonality and freshness, and deliver dishes that are vibrantly seasoned, intricately composed and utterly delicious. As a result, Casamia is proud, vital, and very much worth a visit."

Casamia was placed 39th in the Top 50 restaurant listing in the guide.
