Paul and Emma Ainsworth open the Mariners in Rock

Paul and Emma Ainsworth have reopened the Mariners pub in Rock, Cornwall today offering an all-day menu of pub favourites.

The pair acquired the lease of the pub following the departure of Nathan Outlaw in January and have relaunched it in partnership Sharp's brewery.

The 130-cover pub menu champions local produce and has been developed by Paul along with joint head chefs, Joe Rozier and Tom Dawes.

Large plates will include: battered Cornish haddock with triple cooked chips; Cornish thornback ray wing with potted shrimp butter; ‘the dog's pollock' hotdog with pickled cucumber, dill and parmesan as well as a Goan chicken curry with braised rice, kachumba and homemade naan breads.

There will also be a blackboard of daily specials, a selection of small plates and a children's menu available. As well as this a selection of homemade pies will be prepared daily and a desert selection dubbed ‘&custard' will showcase favourites such as profiteroles with vanilla custard and dark chocolate sauce as well as spotted dick made with aged beef suet and glazed in verjuice caramel.

Chef proprietor Paul said: "Emma and I are so excited to be reopening The Mariners. I'm lucky enough to have an amazing team at the helm, including two incredible head chefs, Joe Rozier previously at No.6 and Tom Dawes who has worked at Rojano's in the Square for the past seven years. The Mariners has been an institution since the 1990s and I'm so thrilled to be a part of its great history and to continue working with one of the world's best breweries, Sharp's. I plan on keeping this Cornish jewel a destination for the local community and holidaymakers alike and look forward to welcoming guests."

At the bar, guests will find a selection of Sharp's Brewery's signature draughts including their Doom Bar Amber Ale, Atlantic Cask Pale Ale and Wolf Rock Red IPA. A short international wine list will be overseen by the group's sommelier, Elly Owen.

New interiors have been led by Emma who worked with designer Eve Cullen-Cornes and design company, Concord Interiors. Oak panelling has been introduced to give a classic pub feel alongside new bars on both floors.

Outlaw had announced his departure from the pub in January. He said: "It has been a huge decision for me personally as I am extremely proud of what the team has achieved and I've enjoyed being part of the growth of such a lovely bunch of people." He added: "Good luck for the future and I look forward to coming back for a Sunday roast and a pint."

Outlaw is to partner with the Goring in London to open a seafood restaurant at the hotel later this year.

Michelin-starred restaurateurs Paul and Emma already count Paul Ainsworth at No 6, Padstow Townhouse and Rojano's in the Square among their growing Cornwall empire.
