JJ Food Service doubles frozen fish range after demand surge
National wholesaler JJ Food Service has doubled its frozen fish range, following a surge in demand.
The company has attributed the rise in demand to the response to its fish and chip promotional brochure, and caterers beginning to trust the quality of frozen fish, which is said to help destroy harmful pathogens, reduce food waste and improve portion control.
Chief product officer at JJ Food Service, Ali Guvemli, said: "We distributed the [fish and chip] brochure in March and in just two months, frozen fish sales have risen significantly… it's clear that a greater diversity of caterers is starting to trust frozen fish. We have responded by improving choice. Our fish is filleted and frozen at sea within four hours of being caught, helping to retain freshness and flavour as well as nutrients."
The company has also increased its range of branded condiments to go with the fish, including sauce sachets, back-of-house tubs and front-of-house table bottles.
A £183m family-owned business, JJ Food Service delivers from eight branches around the UK to coffee shops, pubs, restaurants, hotels, quick-service restaurants, schools and local authorities. It takes orders online, and offers next-day delivery on order until 9pm, and same-day collection across the UK.
