System VariCool drawers from Adande

The patented insulated drawer design that underlies Adande's award-winning System VariCool can reduce energy consumption by up to 50%, saving caterers up to £400 a year.

The independently controlled drawers retain the cold air, no matter how long or often they are opened.

The drawers' flexibility and dimensions also make them major space savers. Each will switch between frozen, refrigerated and ambient temperatures at the touch of a button.

Temperatures can be set in 1°C increments between -20°C and 15°C and the forced air system will switch from 6°C to -18°C in less than 20 minutes. Each drawer has a storage capacity of 4 x 1/1 gastronorm, but its 1,100mm wide x 700mm deep x 425mm high measurements give a footprint of just 0.74sq m, saving 20-50% of kitchen space.

Drawers can be configured in a variety of side-by-side and/or stacked positions to suit all applications, and can be removed for temporary storage or transport of chilled foods.

Optional extras include blast chiller functionality and controlled thawing, while additional flexibility will be added to the system shortly with the launch of the Matchbox double-access system that allows the drawer to be opened from either side.

System Varicool won the Yum! UK's New Supplier of the Year award, and the refrigeration category in the Excellence in Catering Equipment and Supplies Awards 2005.
