NACC announces finalists for Care Cook of the Year
The National Association of Care Catering (NACC) has announced the six finalists of its 2011 Care Cook of the Year competition (CCOTY).
The six cooks from across the UK will compete for the title at Unilever's Knorr Kitchen in Leatherhead, Surrey, on 6 July. They will be tasked with creating a two-course menu meeting stringent criteria with a total cost per head of £1.30.
Derek Johnson, NACC national chair, said: "The competition continues to expand, and attract a high quality of skilled practitioners working in the care sector. The quality of their finished product would not be out of place in a restaurant.
"With malnutrition awareness rising, this is a good platform to showcase what can be achieved within budget."
The final line up is:
Emanuele Ferri, Haven Bay Care Home, Republic of Ireland
Edward Zammit, Helen Court, Essex
Jose Manuel de Freitas, Silver Springs Care Home, Jersey
Margaret Stewart, Methilhaven Home, Fife
Malcolm Shipton, Wren Hall Nursing Home, Derbyshire
Stephen Wilkins, Harrogate Neighbours, Yorkshire
The competition is recognised as one of the longest-standing independent recipe competitions in the UK and attracts top chefs from across the care catering sector.
