BII launches search for new chairman

Licensed retail sector body BII (British Institute of Innkeeping) has launched a search for a new chairman.

The leadership role will support chief executive Tim Hulme in the company's plans to drive its future growth and development.

Previous chairman was Bernard Brindley, who passed away suddenly aged 63, in April this year. Tom Richardson was appointed as interim chairman in May.

Responsibilities will focus on the organisation's strategic plan, maintaining corporate governance, directing the chairs of three Advisory Boards, and supporting the chief executive. The remunerated role is expected to take up 2.5 days a month, including attending board and industry meetings.

The selection panel includes Andrew Griffiths, MP and chair of the All Party Parliamentary Beer Group; Stephen Glancey, group chief executive of C&C Group, and Stephen Gould, managing director of Everards, who will be accompanied by two serving non-executives and two trustees.

Interviews are set to take place in mid-November.

Registered charity BII is the professional body for the licensed retail sector. It has around 11,000 members, and 54 corporate patrons, members and supporters, and seeks to promote high standards and new entrants into the industry.
