Crown at Whitebrook, Ox in Belfast and Tredwell's in London join shortlist for Menu Catey
Chris Harrod's Monmouthshire restaurant the Crown at Whitebrook, Stephen Toman's Ox in Belfast, and Marcus Wareing's latest eaterie, Tredwell's in Seven Dials, have been shortlisted for The Caterer's Menu of the Year Catey award 2015, sponsored by Quorn.
The three restaurants join London restaurants City Social, Murano, Chiltern Firehouse and Sushisamba, Good Food Guide's UK Readers' Restaurant of the Year for 2015, Carters of Moseley in Birmingham, and Ynyshir Hall in Machynlleth, Wales, on the overall shortlist for the coveted award.
Restaurants are selected quarterly from all the menus featured on the Menuwatch pages of the Chef section of The Caterer over the previous three months.
The full shortlist of 12 menus will be judged in May and a final shortlist of four restaurants released ahead of the annual Catey awards in July when the ultimate winner will be announced.
The menus are judged on innovation within the price bracket of that particular establishment or contract; good use of seasonal produce on the menu; creativity of the dishes being served; careful marrying of textures and flavours of the component ingredients; value for money; and, seeing the menu or selection of dishes, would the judges be tempted to eat there.
Judges for the prestigious award include Clare Smyth, chef patron of Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, 2013 Menu of the Year Catey winner Gary Usher of Sticky Walnut in Chester, and AA group area manager Giovanna Grossi.
The first nine menus to be shortlisted, which featured in The Caterer from May to January are:
• Murano
• Ox
The Caterer Awards, now in their 32nd year and also known as the Cateys, will take place on 7 July 2015. To explore sponsorship opportunities contact Rob Adam at rob.adam@thecaterer.com. For all ticket enquiries, please contact Martha Allardyce at martha.allardyce@thecaterer.com.
